Aiming to transform lives a mother and daughter duo uses food, healing, and holistic living to inspire change.
South Yorkshire business owner Annie Davies and her mother Leigh are on a mission to inspire healthier lifestyles through food, healing and holistic living.
From personal healing to public impact: The birth of The Joy of Nutrition
Founded in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, The Joy of Nutrition was born from a personal journey to take control of their health and empower others to do the same.
What began as a personal journey has grown into a community-focused business, offering raw food products, wellness retreats, and educational outreach. With a strong emphasis on sustainability and natural living, the pair have become raw food specialists, with additional training in Naturopathy, Iridology, and Raw Nutrition.
On starting the Joy of Nutrition, business owner Annie said:
“During the pandemic, there was a global focus on health, so my mum and I took action to look after ourselves better. We researched healthy eating and sustainable health alternatives that didn’t burden the NHS. We wanted to help our local communities take more responsibility for their health through better food and non-invasive practices. That’s how it began, making organic produce and our services available locally.”
Transforming health: The Joy of Nutrition’s holistic products and services
Operating across South Yorkshire, including Rotherham, Barnsley, and Wakefield, The Joy of Nutrition offers a unique blend of services. Their wellness retreats, which have become a core focus, offer immersive experiences that allow participants to disconnect from distractions and reconnect with their health.
Alongside this, they sell organic and plant-based products through their online store and attend local markets, not just to sell products, but to engage with their local community.
“We offer an all-round lifestyle transformation, not just ‘eat this and feel better.’ We work on a soul level, addressing trauma, mental health, and relationships. It’s a full package.”
What’s next for the Joy of Nutrition
Looking ahead, the duo hopes to expand their retreats nationally, while establishing a permanent base in Rotherham.
“We want to grow steadily and authentically,” they explain. “We see ourselves running monthly retreats across the UK, but our ultimate goal is to build a foundation in Rotherham, open a café, do local markets, and build brand awareness.”
The business is also deeply rooted in community values. They work with local farmers to redistribute excess produce, support not-for-profit organisations, and volunteer with initiatives in Derbyshire.
“We don’t just want to see the business make money; it’s a long-term project to make a positive change in the community.”
Supporting big ideas: How Launchpad played a part in the Joy of Nutrtition’s Journey
Support from Rotherham Investment and Development Office (RiDO) has played a key role in their growth. Through RiDO’s Launchpad programme, they accessed business workshops, mentoring, and a small grant that helped them invest in essential equipment.
“RIDO gave us so much confidence. We increased our social media engagement, bought machinery we couldn’t afford ourselves, and learned how to scale our business. The focus it gave us was invaluable.”
