After years of helping patients restore strength and mobility in both the NHS and private practice, physiotherapist Shannon Wilkinson has embarked on an exciting new chapter by opening her own clinic in Todwick, Rotherham. This achievement was made possible with guidance and support from RIDO’s Launchpad programme.

Whether recovering from an injury, managing ongoing pain, or aiming to improve performance, her clinic offers a wide range of physiotherapy services designed to help clients move better and feel their best.
Turning ambition into reality
When Shannon opened Wilkinson Physiotherapy in September, she wasn’t just starting a business, she was fulfilling a long-held ambition. With years of experience in both the NHS and private practice, Shannon knew her goal was to create a service that truly put people first.
“I always knew setting up my own practice was the end game,” Shannon explains. “Working for others never gave me the fulfilment I wanted. Now I can structure things my way, spend more time with people, and really listen to their concerns.”
A different approach to physiotherapy
Unlike the standard NHS model, where patients often leave with a sheet of exercises, Shannon focuses on understanding the root cause of pain and creating tailored treatment plans.
“I want people to leave with answers, not more questions.”
Wilkinson Physiotherapy offers expert care to support recovery and improve wellbeing. Services include physiotherapy for aches, pains and musculoskeletal conditions, sports injury management, and tailored one-to-one rehabilitation. Shannon also provides pain management plans and pre- and post-operative support for a safe return to full function.
Her sessions combine physiotherapy, pain management, and rehabilitation, all under one roof. She also offers something many clinics can’t, quick access to imaging and consultant opinions through private contacts. Shannon’s client base is diverse, from teenagers to people in their 80s.
“I see everything from sporting injuries to desk workers with back pain, It’s a wide scope, but the goal is always the same helping people live pain-free.”
How RiDO’s Launchpad programme supported Shannon on her start-up journey
Starting a business can be daunting, but Shannon found vital support through RIDO’s Launchpad programme.
“I heard about it at a local networking meeting and signed up straight away,”
Since then, Shannon has attended many of Launchpad’s expert workshops on artificial intelligence (AI) and marketing, gaining practical insights to help develop her social media marketing skills and grow her clinic.
Her advice to other aspiring entrepreneurs who are thinking of starting their own business, but don’t know where to begin?
“Sign up straight away and immerse yourself in as many of their courses as you can. You don’t know everything about business, and even if you take one thing away from a session, it’s something new you have discovered. I’ve always learned something useful from each workshop”
What’s next for Wilkinson Physiotherapy?
Shannon’s has high ambitions for the next two years and has a clear goal to become the stand-out physiotherapist within Todwick and the wider Rotherham area.
“I want to be the go-to physio clinic in the local area, the one people know and trust.”
With strong foundations in place, along with positive client feedback, and a fast growing presence online, Shannon is well on her way to achieve her goals and continue to grow her new business.
